The Ukulele craze is sweeping the world, and rightly so. Easy to learn, easy to play, and with a delightful and engaging sound! Ukuleles are providing schools with an affordable way of engaging children in large numbers in musical activity, and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is going down a storm at festivals.

But ukuleles, like bottles of wine, are not all alike. There are lots of ukes in the shops (from traditional looking ones to bright pink flying-V styles). And they're cheap too! But, like a really cheap bottle of wine, the £30 ukes are going to disappoint when it comes to actually delivering as musical instruments.

We're not music snobs at Left Hand Bear, and we're all in favour of entry-level instruments... but when it comes to ukes, well the only good uke is a... good uke!

The Gold Tone models are great ukuleles. Very sensibly priced too. A bigger investment than the novelty instruments you'll see in the shop windows at Christmas... but we like to think that musical instruments (like puppies) are for life, not just for Christmas.
